What is F.O.R.D. all about?

The Fredericksburg Off-Road Duathlons (F.O.R.D.s) are two Virginia Off-Road Series races with a focus on good, friendly, and fun competition. We started F.O.R.D. six years ago, and the races have developed into some of the best Off-Road Duathlons in Virginia. Why? Because we offer awesome racing PLUS a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Thanks to our amazing sponsors, we are able to offer free food plus a good draft from our local Blue & Gray Brewery post race (no worries - non-alcoholic beverages will be offered as well). And what better place to enjoy these perks than on "the beach" of the Rappahannock River! Spectators can take advantage of all of the adventure the river has to offer since the race site is located right on the premises of the Virginia Outdoor Center (V.O.C.). Next to tubing, canoeing and kayaking, the center offers a rock climbing wall for beginners and experts AND race site camping for a minimal price.

Competitors will be able to choose between  Beginner and Advanced distances. Please note that ONLY THE TOP 3 OVERALL MALE/FEMALE ADVANCED racers will have a shot at the top 3 finishers prize money! A team option is also available (1 runner, 1 biker), but all teams MUST race the Advanced distance to qualify for awards.

Distances:

Beginner: Two 1.1 mile runs split by a 6 mile mountain bike

Advanced: Two 2.5 mile runs split by a 12 mile mountain bike.

Teams:  One runner, one biker, race advanced distances.

Race Start:

9:00 a.m. race start for all racers.  Race briefing will be held at 8:45 a.m.

Terrain:

This is a great course that offers everything from fire roads to technical, hilly single track.  Beginners: Be advised that this is a course that requires some experience on the mountain bike. There are steep ups and downs with log hops (not to say you can't walk certain sections). ALL racers MUST wear helmets and ride a functional mountain bike.

Don't have one or need an overhaul? See Bob at The Bike Stop (540-825-2105). Trust us - it's worth the trip!!

Awards:

Prizes go to overall top 3 male/female and 3 deep in all categories. Dollars will come to the overall top male/female finishers.

Age Groups:

Male/Female, 0-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-92 (no team age groups, all teams race together, unless we have a LARGE number of them).

Perks:

One shirt for the series is guaranteed to all pre-registered athletes. If we run out, we will make sure to have plenty at the second race! Free grub and drink for all athletes. IF we have extra, spectators that come with racers are welcome to some as well. Otherwise, please let the athletes eat and drink first!

Fees:

$30 Early Bird Registration, $40 Pre-Registration, $50 Race Day Registration. Teams pay $5 less per racer (i.e. $25/racer Early Bird).  Cut-off dates for each race are posted on the registration site.
